With Google Music Search, Finding your Favorite Musical Artists, Song, Album or Band Just Got Easier

Posted on November 30, 2009

Since the early days of the Internet, searching for music has been one of the most popular online activities. With the arrival of Napster in 1999, music file sharing reached an all time high as Internet users could find any song they wanted for free. Even though Napster was shut down in July of 2001, music file sharing continued to progress with the invention of iTunes, the iPod, social media and Pandora. As music file sharing continues to grow in popularity, Google is taking hold of the phenomenon with its search engine.

With its search engine, Google is now allowing Internet users the ability to find information on musical artists, their songs and any other relevant information. Google users can simply type the name of an artist, a song, albums, bands, or even a song lyric within the search engine and instantly get access to songs and information on the search engine results page (also known as a SERP).  Songs instantly appear at the very top of the SERP and Internet users can simply click to hear what they are looking for.

With this technology, Google has made it possible to find any musical artist or band from around the world. With the service based off using a search engine, music lovers can search for any music they want at no cost.

Google Analytics Goals

Setting goals with Google Analytics just got easier as one the popular online tools will now allow business owners to set as many as 20 business goals for a web-site. Before the change was made, users of Google Analytics could only set four goals at a time and would have to make multiple profiles to go beyond that number. With the improvement, setting up multiple profiles can still be done, however, it is not necessary to set all of your goals.

In addition to allowing business owners the capability to set more goals, Google Anayltics also launched Traakboard, which is a desktop application for analysts to pull information from different Google Analytics profiles and logins. The application can be used for multiple accounts and profiles and has a report widget. The report widget can be programmed to fetch data at certain times of the day, week or month, which reduces time in getting important data.

Analytics Intelligence was also added to allow users and analysts to find specific data in a more timely fashion.  Instead of having to go through piles and piles of information, analysts can search specifically for the information they will need to make a strategic decision. Analytics Intelligence also monitors web-site traffic on a 24/7 basis and will add any important or significant changes in the Intelligence Reports. Any significant changes will have an alert for the business owner and can be accessed daily, weekly or even monthly.

Since its launch a few years ago, Google Analytics has helped business owners track important web-site visitor information. The online tool tracks visitors coming from search engines, pay-per-click advertising, display ads, PDF documents and other forms of online marketing. The tool has also been useful for developing reports and alerting users of significant changes in data.

Demo of Google’s Social Search Project- A Way to Improve the Google Search Engine

Posted on October 30, 2009

Over time, social media has grown in popularity and to this day, has become one of the most popular forms of communication available. With social media user numbers increasing on Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Twitter and many other web-sites, Google Labs recently announced plans for its Social Search Project as a way to research how social networks can improve someone’s search engine experience.

Set to launch over the next few weeks, the Google Social Search Project will allow users to find both relevant web-sites and content from their social media all on the same Search Engine Results Page (SERP). To utilize this service, current users will have to be logged into Google or have to create a Google profile. During the creation of the profile, users will need to list their social networks in order for social media content to show up in the SERPs. Google can also use this information to determine who users are connected to and through which network. Users who wish not to participate in the experiment and the research can simply turn off the feature in their Google profile settings.

During this experiment, research on how social media impacts purchasing decisions will be conducted as well. During a search for a particular product, users can find blogs, tweets, Facebook posts and other social media tools to find out what people in their networks are saying about a particular product. For example, anyone searching for a new laptop for their home or office will be able to see what their friends are saying about laptops in their blogs, Facebook posts and other social media outlets.

Image search optimization is also looking to be improved through this project. The Google Social Search Project will also allow photos from social networks to be displayed during searches.
