Commentary on Searching

What: We looked at different ways of searching for information this week. And we looked at ways to find what others are searching. Usings this kind of information together can really help you take advantage of the search engines at a much higher level.

Who: Sage Lewis

Where: This was shot at our office in Akron Ohio.

When: March 23, 2007

Why: Most people are still not using very sophisticated capabilities of search engines. Yet virtually everyone searches on a regular basis. Spending some time learning some new techniques and tools can really make you more efficient and more effective.

How: I shot this with my mini DV Panasonic video camera. I had 1000 watts of light on both my left and my right plus some fill lights. I’ve added some covers to my lights to try to achieve a softer look.

How To Use Advance Search Techniques

What: Using the advanced search capabilities of a search engine is a great way to fine what you are looking for better and faster.

Who: Sage Lewis

When: March 22, 2007

Why: Advanced search is still not a widely used tool. However, there is so much information online that not using some simple advanced search techniques can really slow you down and ultimately not give you the best results.

How: I shot this with my mini DV Panasonic video camera. I had 1000 watts of light on both my left and my right plus some fill lights. I’ve added some covers to my lights to try to achieve a softer look.

Google Zeitgeist

What: Google Zeitgeist is a great tool to see search trends. It shows you to most popular searches in a wide variety of categories by year, month and week.

Who: Sage Lewis

Where: This was shot at our office in Akron Ohio.

When: March 21, 2007

Why: By understanding what the most popular searches are for a specific time period you can often come across hot phrases that might apply to your business. You could then write content for these phrases as potential drive a ton of traffic to your web site.

Microsoft adCenter Labs

Why: The Microsoft adCenter Labs shows some real innovation from the adCenter team. While these tools aren’t ready for primetime, they are pretty handy. I think you’ll get a lot out of checking this site out.

5th Year Of The Iraq War Through Search Engines

What: Today is the first day of the 5th year of the Iraq War: March 19, 2007. On this 4th aniversary I thought we could take this opportunity and look at different results that are given from different engines. We looked at:
