Why: Politicians have only one chance to get it right. If they mess up they loose everything. If they get it right they win the entire shooting match. It’s amazingly intense. Consequently, there is a lot to be learned from politcal web marketing in the corporate world.

What: Officebydesign.com has spent years perfecting their search engine optimization. It has involved many different evolutions. But now the architecture of Officebydesign.com is such that he can come up for a wide variety of key phrases within the search engines.

Why: There might not be a more intense marketing place online than with presidential politicians. In order to win at a grassroots level you have to be more savvy and cutting edge than virtually every other marketer out there. Looking at Barack’s site in comparison to Hillary’s site is a pretty eye opening comparison.

Why: Politicians are true sprinters when it comes to marketing. They don’t have a decade to get it right. At best they get two years. Looking at what a savvy politician does online can give you some powerful insight into techniques you could use for your own web site.

Why: This whole social marketing thing is like a raging virus. It reminds of Ebola… a hot, raging disease that will likely burn out before the end of the year. The concept is fine. However, it’s put in the hands of people that often care more about their campaign than the people they are manipulating. The lack of genuine care for the people being socially marketed to will be the death of this concept.
