“Nearly 80 percent of African Americans surveyed have access to the Internet, compared to the 88 percent of the general population. Two-thirds of online African American households have access to broadband connections, compared to 53 percent of the general population.”

“They report spending five hours surfing per day, compared to 2.9 hours for the general population. What drives this group online? Seventy-two percent cite the need to obtain general information as a key driver.”

48.7 percent of African Americans are online compared to 69 percent of Whites. “They will also be among the early adopters of the mobile Internet.”

When: January 15, 2007

Why: Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The effect Martin Luther King Jr. had on this country is likely more profound than any of us will ever know. He lead a civil rights revolution that all the people of America have benefitted from. Martin Luther King Jr. was more than civil rights for American blacks. He fought to the death for non-violent civil rights justice for all people. In his time, the civil rights of blacks was the most important agenda (and probably still is today). I thought I would be interesting to see what black people are doing online.

How: I shot this with my mini DV Panasonic video camera. I had 1000 watts of light on both my left and my right plus some fill lights.
